Howell Township is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1801. It was named after former governor of New Jersey, Richard Howell who served from 1794 to 1801. It is the home of Manasquan Reservoir which is one of the most popular recreational sites in the county that features boating facilities, an environmental nature center and other park and recreational activities. In modern times Howell Township is known as the place where parts of the Steven Spielberg directed Hollywood movie, "The War of the Worlds 2005" was filmed.
Monmouth County was one of the hardest hit areas on the East Coast when Hurricane Sandy made landfall. As such, even after all of this time, both businesses and residences are still feeling the effects of mold and mildew infestation from all of the moisture that was deposited by that storm.
