Professional Disinfection for New Jersey Businesses and Facilities

Commercial disinfection kills the pathogens routine cleaning leaves behind. GreenWorks Environmental serves corporate offices, medical facilities, schools, and industrial facilities across New Jersey with building science and documentation an ordinary cleaning crew cannot offer. Here you will find how disinfection differs from cleaning, what our approach involves, and when a facility needs it.

A Clean-Looking Office Is Not a Disinfected One

Routine cleaning removes visible dirt and dust. It does not kill the mold spores, bacteria, and viruses left behind on surfaces and in the air. When a business needs more than appearance—such as after an illness outbreak, a water or sewage event, or simply to protect employees and customers—it calls for professional disinfection.

Commercial Cleaning Versus Disinfection: Why the Difference Matters

Cleaning and disinfection are not the same service, and confusing them leaves a business exposed. Cleaning removes dirt, dust, and debris from surfaces. Disinfection uses EPA-registered products to kill the pathogens—bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi—that cleaning alone leaves behind.

This is exactly where standard janitorial services end and specialized disinfection begins. A janitorial crew keeps a space looking clean. It is not equipped or trained to decontaminate one.

Professional disinfection goes further, using specialized methods and EPA-registered biocides to target the pathogens that make people sick. For any facility where health, liability, or compliance is on the line, that distinction is the whole point.

What Professional Disinfection Protects

Investing in real disinfection protects three things a business cannot afford to lose.

Employee Health and Attendance

Shared surfaces, break rooms, restrooms, and high-touch points spread illness through a workplace fast. Professional disinfection reduces the pathogen load that drives employee absenteeism, keeping more of your team healthy and at work.

Customer Confidence and Reputation

A visibly clean and demonstrably safe facility improves customer confidence and protects your business reputation. Guests and visitors notice cleanliness, and a documented disinfection program is something you can point to.

Compliance and Liability

Many industries carry real sanitation obligations. Disinfection performed to recognized OSHA and CDC standards helps a business meet those expectations and documents that it did, which matters when compliance or liability is questioned. Our healthy facility management guide covers what those obligations look like in practice.

Our Disinfection Approach

GreenWorks Environmental approaches disinfection as a team of building scientists, not a cleaning franchise. We assess the facility first, identify the pathogen-prone areas and the contamination actually present, then build a cleaning plan matched to your space rather than applying one routine to every job.

1. EPA-Approved Methods

We disinfect using EPA-registered biocides applied with professional methods, including fogging that carries disinfectant into the same spaces airborne pathogens reach. The product and approach are matched to the contamination and the facility. Where a non-chemical approach suits the space, probiotic surface and air treatments work on a different principle, and antimicrobial coatings extend the life of a treatment between visits.

2. Documented Results

This is where GreenWorks Environmental stands apart. Upon completion, we provide certification documenting the disinfection performed. This serves as proof for your records, compliance obligations, insurer, or reopening. A janitorial crew leaves you with a clean-looking room. We leave you with a clean room and the documentation to prove it.

3. Tailored to Your Facility

Different facilities carry different risks and requirements. We customize disinfection for the space, whether corporate offices, medical facilities, educational institutions, or industrial facilities, each with its own sanitation expectations and traffic patterns that must be addressed.

Facilities We Serve Across New Jersey

  • Corporate offices — shared workspaces, conference rooms, break rooms, and the high-touch surfaces that move illness through a team.

  • Medical and dental offices — healthcare facilities require specialized cleaning to meet safety standards, and infection control extends to communal areas and restrooms as much as treatment rooms.

  • Schools and educational institutions — tailored disinfection for health compliance in buildings where hundreds of students share the same surfaces daily.

  • Laboratories and pharmaceutical locations — strict protocols for lab equipment and controlled environments where contamination carries compliance consequences.

  • Industrial facilities — larger spaces, shift patterns, and equipment that has to keep running while the work happens around it.

  • Retail and public-facing businesses — commercial properties with frequent customer traffic where cleanliness is part of how the business is judged.

When to Call for Commercial Disinfection

  • After a confirmed illness or outbreak among staff or visitors
  • Following a water intrusion, sewage backup, or mold event, where environmental cleanup and disinfection work together
  • Before reopening a space that has sat closed or contaminated
  • On an ongoing basis for facilities with heavy public traffic or shared workspaces
  • Whenever compliance, liability, or occupant health requires documented decontamination, not just cleaning

Frequently Asked Questions About Disinfecting

What Is the Difference Between Cleaning and Disinfecting?

Cleaning removes dirt, dust, and debris from floors and surfaces so a space looks clean. Disinfecting uses EPA-registered biocides to kill bacteria, viruses, mold, and other pathogens. A space can be spotless and still carry the germs that make people sick, which is why cleanliness and disinfection are not the same thing.

How Does SteraMist Work?

The TOMI SteraMist system uses Binary Ionization Technology, a patented two-step process that activates and ionizes a 7.8% hydrogen peroxide solution through a Cold Plasma Arc. This creates a fog called ionized hydrogen peroxide containing a high concentration of Reactive Oxygen Species, mostly hydroxyl radicals, which damage pathogenic organisms through cellular disruption.

How Long Before Rooms Are Safe to Re-Enter?

After using the SteraMist Environment System, rooms are safe for re-entrance within minutes. Full-room decontamination takes under 45 minutes, including both application and contact time, so a business loses part of a shift rather than a day of operations.

Are There Toxins in SteraMist?

SteraMist uses no toxic byproducts and is EPA-registered. The only byproducts are moisture and oxygen. It leaves no dangerous residue behind on surfaces or equipment and requires less than an hour to work fully.

What Pathogens Does This Address?

GreenWorks clients have used SteraMist against a range of pathogens, including C. difficile, MRSA, influenza, norovirus, Salmonella, and mold spores. Specific efficacy claims follow the EPA registration and label for the product used in your facility.

Will the Disinfection Process Damage Electrical Equipment?

No. The process does not harm high-touch, sensitive equipment or electronics, which is why it is safe in medical facilities, corporate offices, schools, and other spaces full of electronic devices.

Does the Process Leave Behind an Odor?

The opposite. The treatment deodorizes by killing odor-causing bacteria, and it leaves no foul-smelling or harmful odors of its own. No rinsing or wiping is needed afterward.

What Percentage of Germs Are Killed?

A six-log kill, meaning 99.9999% of microorganisms across bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

How Often Should a Facility Be Disinfected?

It depends on traffic and risk. A one-time disinfection makes sense after an outbreak, a contamination event, or before reopening. Businesses with frequent customer traffic and shared workspaces benefit from a customizable schedule that maximizes protection between visits, and we match frequency to how your space is actually used rather than selling a fixed contract.

How Does Disinfection Stop Illness From Spreading Through Our Building?

Pathogens move through a facility on high-touch surfaces and through the air, so one sick employee in a shared space can seed contamination across it. Targeted disinfecting of those areas with EPA-registered biocides interrupts that spread, protecting your team, your visitors, and the wider community.

Do You Replace Our Regular Cleaning Company?

No. We are not a janitorial service and do not compete with commercial cleaning services. Disinfecting services work alongside your existing cleaning service. Your crew handles day-to-day cleanliness, carpet cleaning, floors, and other types of routine upkeep, and we handle decontamination requiring EPA-registered biocides, professional methods, and documentation.

What Kinds of Facilities Do You Serve?

Corporate offices, medical and dental offices, schools and educational institutions, laboratories, pharmaceutical locations, and industrial facilities across New Jersey. Each industry carries its own sanitation expectations and traffic patterns, and we build the cleaning plan around them.

Do You Provide Documentation for Compliance?

Yes. Every completed job comes with certification documenting the disinfection performed. That record supports regulatory compliance in industries with high sanitation expectations, and it is what you hand an insurer, an inspector, or your own board.

Do You Use Electrostatic or Fogging Application?

Both, depending on the facility. Fogging carries disinfectant into the same spaces airborne pathogens reach, and electrostatic application wraps charged droplets around surfaces and equipment. Which method we deploy depends on the space, the contamination present, and what your operations allow.

What Training Does Your Team Have?

Our team is composed of Building Biologists and certified environmental professionals, not a cleaning crew with a spray bottle. That expertise is what lets us identify what is actually contaminating a facility, and knowledgeable assessment is what turns disinfecting services into a high-quality service matched to the environment rather than a standard routine.

Do You Disinfect Communal Areas and Restrooms?

Yes. Infection control means treating the areas people share, including restrooms, break rooms, kitchens, and reception. These are where germs concentrate and where a workplace hygiene program either works or does not.

Is Disinfection Safe for an Occupied Building?

The approach depends on the space and the products used. We plan the work, including timing and occupancy considerations, around your facility so disinfection is effective without disrupting operations more than necessary.
