The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that people sensitive to mold may experience a stuffy nose, wheezing, itchy skin, and eye irritation. Mold spores irritate mucous membranes on contact, and allergic rhinitis is among the most commonly reported allergy symptoms tied to household mold.
Mold-Induced Asthma and Respiratory Symptoms
Asthma symptoms worsen in a moldy environment, and people already managing asthma report increased respiratory symptoms in damp indoor spaces. Mold exposure is recognized as a trigger rather than a cause, and poor ventilation concentrates what triggers it.
Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis
This is an inflammatory reaction in the lungs following repeated inhalation of organic dusts, including indoor fungal spores. It appears most often among workers exposed occupationally, though high-dose exposure in damp indoor spaces produces cases as well.
Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis

Some practitioners use the term chronic inflammatory response syndrome, or CIRS, to describe a persistent inflammatory response following exposure to water-damaged buildings. It is not universally recognized as an established diagnosis, and it remains debated within mainstream allergy and public health bodies.
Weakened Immune Systems and Higher Health Risks
Infants, older adults, people with a compromised immune system, and those with existing chronic lung disease face higher health risks from indoor mold. Weakened immune systems are the common factor, and adverse health effects appear at exposure levels others tolerate.

STEP 01
Client Interview
We ask what you are experiencing, when symptoms started, whether they change with location or season, and the building's history of water leaks or repairs. What occupants notice about their own environment directs where the investigation focuses.
STEP 02
Building Assessment
We walk the property inside and out, checking basements, crawl spaces, attics, ceiling tiles, air conditioner coils, and anywhere with a history of water leaks. Visible mold growth and musty odors are the clearest indicators of household mold, and both are frequently absent.
STEP 03
Instrumentation and Sampling
Moisture meters and thermal imaging locate water behind surfaces. Air and surface samples go to accredited independent laboratories, and mycotoxin analysis is ordered where mold and mycotoxins are the specific concern.
STEP 04
Findings Review
You receive results with the environmental exposures identified, their concentrations, and the mechanism producing them. We walk through what the findings mean for the building, and what remains outside our scope to interpret.
STEP 05
Corrective Scope and Follow-Up
Where mold remediation, moisture correction, or ventilation work is warranted, the scope is detailed enough to price and execute. Post-remediation testing confirms the indoor environment actually changed.
