About Tinton Falls
Originally formed as New Shrewsbury, it was renamed as Tinton Falls in 1975 to avoid any postal errors. The name was given to honor Tinton Manor because during the Civil War it housed free slaves. Tinton Falls was home to the Grover Ironworks, one of the first producers of iron in the United States. The Old Mill was added to the National Register f historic places, and was the birthplace of Milton Goode, a famous high jumper who participated in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
