NDS Certified Professionals
Just recently, we received our Certified Professional Drainage Contractor (PDC) status from NDS. This title indicates that Greenworks has completed the NDS Professional Drainage Contractor course and passed the associated evaluation. We’ve demonstrated experience and knowledge in drainage installations, not just in general but specifically within our operating region of New Jersey.
Got That Squishy Yard?
Spongy, moist lawns result from old, dead grass material building up, creating a thick “thatch” layer. This compromises your yard’s ability to gather air, water, and fertilizer, leading to less healthy plants and further moisture issues.
Thatch in lawns is most common in yards with acidic and compact soil. However, it can also be caused by a variety of factors such as excess nitrogen, diseases, and pest problems. The materials become spongy and retain moisture from watering, rain, and runoff.
To protect your plants and home from diseases and nutritional deficiencies, you’ll need to remedy your “spongy” lawn quickly. That often starts with assessing the state of your yard’s moisture and drainage system.
How to Tell If You Have a Yard Drainage Problem
The most obvious warning sign of excess moisture in your yard is standing water. After it rains, your puddles should disappear after a day or two. If not, your yard is likely too packed with dead materials and roots to properly eradicate standing moisture.
As a Certified NDS Drainage Contractor, we know how to assess and diagnose moisture and drainage issues in your yard. Call GreenWorks right away if you notice:
Standing water on the driveway or pooling water at the foundation.
Soft/squishy areas of the yard or areas with poorly draining soil.
Downspouts that discharge underground to no apparent discharge point.
Basements and crawl spaces that are intermittently moist.
Standing water in the yard, on the patio, or around the pool area
These are the five most common symptoms of poor yard drainage, and all of them should result in an immediate call to drainage experts.
Our Top Drainage Solutions and Products
1. Catch Basins
These drainage catch basins, also known as yard drains, capture large amounts of surface runoff water. They’re designed to be functional and decorative, so they won’t pose as an eyesore on your property.
Even better, they’re environmentally friendly and made from 100% recycled materials. Each catch basis can last for up to 50 years.
2. Flo Wells
Flo wells, also known as dry wells, are best for handling large volumes of water in a small area. Typically, they’re used to filter stormwater naturally through the subsurface. This reduces the number of pollutants present while also replenishing groundwater tables and discharging stormwater on site.
3. The NDS EZ-Flow
This gravel-free French Drain can be used in yards, basements, and crawl spaces in conjunction with retaining walls, curtains, and foundation drains. The NDS EZ-Flow consists of a perforated pipe with a lightweight “Poly-Rock” aggregate in a soiled sock.
Poly-Rock™ is an engineered polystyrene peanut with flow channels that allow 30% greater water flow rates over gravel. This product is long-lasting with an estimated 100-year material lifespan.
4. NDS Pop-Up Drainage Emitter
Our last product, the NDS Pop-Up Drainage Emitter, is especially easy to use and maintain. It serves as a final discharge point for water drainage and prevents small mammals, such as mice and squirrels, from entering and clogging your system.
The patented spring-loaded cap allows water to exit and closes to secure the pipe. This allows you to use the product in conjunction with sump pumps.
