As a realtor, it was imperative that you are aware of any issues a house may have before you show it. The best way to detect potential problems in a home on the market is to review disclosure documents and speak directly from the sellers. It may take some deep digging and a little intuition, but you ca observe clues indicating a property may have some serious issues.
Here are five home hazard clues that should raise your antennas:
1. Leaking Pipes
Got leaking pipes? Leaking pipes are easy to fix, but persistent water intrusion is usually a sign that it’s not a leaking pipe.
2. No Sump Pump
A sump pump chamber with no sump pump is not an indication of a dry basement.
3. Foul Smells
Foul smells, like rotting garbage is a good indication that something is just not right.
4. Mold Issue
Black growth on otherwise normal-looking wood should be a clue of a rot or mold issue.
5. Health Issue
Any reference to the occupants having health issues should raise an eyebrow. It may be an environmental issue at large (sick house syndrome) affecting the occupant’s health.
